5 Budget Vacation Hacks

Vacations can be very expensive. That’s why it’s a good idea to look for ways to save money while you’re travelling.

Here are 5 budget vacation hacks.

1. Get a Cheap Flight

It’s often the case that the flight to and from your destination will take the lion’s share of your vacation expenses. That’s especially true if you have a big family.

If you want to save money on a family vacation, look for cheap flights. Fortunately, it’s never been easier in the history of aviation to find inexpensive travel options than it is right now. That’s because of the wonders of modern technology.

In this Information Age, you can search for great travel deals from the comfort of your own home using your smartphone, laptop, or desktop PC. Just Google a few keywords related to economical travel and/or your ultimate destination and you should have no trouble finding several options.

2. Earn Free Miles

Do you know that airlines give out free miles? Often free miles are given as a reward to people who travel frequently with the same airlines or to people who use an airline credit card.

If you’re not a frequent traveler, then one of the best ways that you can earn free miles is by getting a credit that offers airline miles in exchange for using the card to make purchases. The trick here is to use the card for as much as possible, but to also make sure that you pay it off every month. If you don’t pay the balance off every month, you’re going to get slapped with interest expenses that will eat into your vacation savings.

Keep in mind also that many credit cards also offer other travel-related perks, such as discounts when you stay at a specific hotel chain.

3. Stay in a Cheap Hotel

You might think that you “need” an expensive accommodation to really enjoy your vacation. Think again.

For starters, you’re probably just looking at a hotel room as a place to crash every night. If you’re going to be out and about most of the day, then you don’t need a fancy hotel room.

Also, unless your hotel is meant to be a part of your vacation (e.g., for a romantic getaway), then there’s really no reason to splurge on the hotel room.

Finally, don’t forget to check AirBnb and TravelMob for reasonable accommodations in the area where you’ll be vacationing.

4. Take Public Transportation

If you’re traveling to some metropolitan area, you won’t need to rent a car. Instead, just take public transportation everywhere you go. More than likely, you’ll save a fortune.

5. Eat on the Cheap

If the point of your vacation is to enjoy time together as a family and do some sight-seeing, you don’t need to spend a fortune on an expensive restaurant. Be content to eat at diners and enjoy food from street vendors. You’ll fill up without dropping a couple of C-notes.

Vacations don’t have to cost you a small fortune. In addition to following these vacation hacks, you can also search for frugal vacation destinations and enjoy some quality family time without breaking the bank.
