5 Fun and Affordable Cities for Newlyweds

Hosting a big event with tons of guests is bound to come with a pretty high price tag, and a wedding is one of the priciest, thanks to the many purchases you’ll make and the vendors you’ll hire. As a result, most couples don’t have a lot of money left over for the honeymoon. That said, newlyweds don’t need much more than each other to have a fantastic honeymoon.

Still, a beautiful, exotic locale, a comfortable hotel, and fun (if brief) activities outside the hotel room couldn’t hurt. There are plenty of cities prepared to accommodate in all respects. Here are a few fun and affordable destinations for newlyweds to consider.

1. Galway City, Ireland

Located on the scenic west coast of Ireland, this bustling city provides for one of the best and most affordable getaways to be found in the Emerald Isle. Galway City may not be as large as more popular Dublin, but the pricing reflects this, and couples can still find plenty of fun activities to occupy their time. Scenic drives up and down the coastline offer excursions like beach days, a visit to the impressive Cliffs of Moher, or photo ops at a variety of historic buildings. You could even take a day trip by ferry to the beautiful Aran Islands. Or stay in the city and soak up some culture with museum visits or an evening at the pub, listening to live music and drinking a pint of Guinness, poured right.

2. Tulum, Mexico

Located south of Cancun on the desirable Riviera Maya region of Mexico’s Caribbean coast, this little city has a lot to offer newlyweds on a budget. Less expensive than nearby Cancun, it’s still easy to find lodgings at a variety of boutique hotels – some are even all-inclusive with food and drinks. From there you can sun on white sand beaches and swim in warm, cerulean waters during the day, visit the nearby Mayan ruins, or take a day trip to Chichen Itza further inland. At night you can enjoy your favorite Mexican cuisine and partake of local entertainment acts.

3. The Adirondacks, New York, USA

Technically, this isn’t a city so much as an area. However, you’ll find that there are a number of budget-friendly options available to couples looking for a little fun and relaxation off the beaten path. This region in the state of New York offers mountains, lakes, and all manner of natural attractions to provide a beautiful backdrop for a honeymoon. The summer months could be spent camping, hiking, canoeing, and soaking up nature, while winter offers truly spectacular ski opportunities. No matter what season you choose for the wedding, a honeymoon in the Adirondacks is sure to please.

4. Lake Tahoe, California/Nevada, USA

Those interested in preserving whatever savings they have left in their First Place Bank account will appreciate the low cost of travel to this gorgeous lake. Honeymooners can save some money by driving instead of flying, and there are plenty of cozy and secluded cabins for rent during both summer and winter months. The summer offers spectacular views of the Sierra Nevada Mountains as couples lounge on the beach or enjoy water sports, while winter skiing conditions are some of the best to be found in the U.S.

5. Cambria, California, USA

This tiny town midway between Los Angeles and San Francisco has a lot to offer a couple looking to hit the beach, drink some vino, or find entertainment options. A room on Moonstone Beach Drive doesn’t have to cost much, and all you have to do is walk across the street to put your feet in sand and surf. As for activities, wine tours to nearby Paso Robles are easy to come by, the famous Hearst Castle is about 10 miles north, and a short drive will take you to nearby San Luis Obispo and plenty of entertainment options. Even if you planned your wedding on a budget, you might still be keen to save some dough during your honeymoon, and this is one vacation that meets your needs.
