Mortgage rates have bounced off recent lows and are mostly steady today with lenders only making small adjustments to their pricing. However, 5/1 adjustable rate mortgages have risen to their highest rate in over a month (since June 6), according to a NerdWallet survey of national lenders Tuesday morning.
Stock markets have been in a recovery mode since Friday’s upbeat jobs report, while bonds have sagged. Lower prices on bonds bring higher yields and that compels mortgage rates to rise.
The NerdWallet Mortgage Rate Index compiles annual percentage rates — lender interest rates plus fees, the most accurate way for consumers to compare rates. Here are today’s average rates for the most popular loan terms:
